Okay, I'm in love with BLEACH. It's been airing on Adult Swim, but personally, some of the dub voices (*cough* Kon *cough* ) make me want to stabbity myself in the eye. Plus, since I'm caught up with the Japanese releases (Episode 97, currently) starting at the begining again is tedious.

But I won't give spoilers. Watch it. Subbed or dubbed, whatever you prefer. It's pretty good, especially once it gets into the second arc.

1. Which voices do you hate?

IMO, they have Rukia's voice down. I dunno about the others, it's a bit off.

2. Rukia's isn't as bad as we thought it would be

Not quite as powerful as her Japanese voice, but not the girly voice we feared it would be. Kon's voice, as heard in the episode preview for episode 2 made me want to stab myself. Ichigo's sounds pretty good, especially when he's pissed. Although I don't think he sounds pissed enough in the dub (exact opposite of dub Edward Elric, who sounds pissed too much). Actually, Ichigo's english VA is going to be a con I'm going to next week. Maybe I'll tell him to be more pissy XD

Orihime's voice sounds like a generic female voice, it doesn't have the same cuteness and innocence of the Japanese voice (Orihime's seiyuu, btw, also does Osaka from Azumanga Daioh). I'm still worried how they'll make Byakuya-sama sound :-/

3. Yeah, Johnny Young Bosch never sounds pissed enough

4. Apparently,

they're pronouncing Kon as "Kone" :eyes: And Ichigo's dad's voice is crazy enough, but I wonder if it'll still fit after a certain revelation in a latter arc (the anime hasn't reached that far, even in Japan).

Speaking of the manga... the latest chapter (247) had me giggling like a happy fangirl at one point :D

5. Cone?

6. Yeah, almost an "aw" sound

Some of the pronunciations were pretty good, such as not putting the emphasis on the wrong syllable in Tatsuki. But "Kone" .... :eyes:

7. A major problem with dubbing Rukia

In the original Japanese she is switching back and forth between a formal dialect and a more personal dialect. This causes Ichigo some amount of consternation. But conveying this is difficult in English. Typically when someone has a different dialect they resort to regional accents. But they can't do this in Bleach as easily. So the dubbing artist appears to be struggling with it.

That being said Bleach's dub team is not horrendous. This ammounts to a compliment from me. Watch the original if you can. But this dub does not do terrible disservice to the original.

9. I hope we see more of Rukia

She's one of my favourite characters, and I really like Orikasa-san's performance, but she's been marginalised for too long (I'm up to date with the DB fansub). Since I don't follow the manga, I don't know what to expect now that the filler arc is done, but I hope Rukia gets more airtime.

I'ts not feline enough. In the Japanese version Yourichi's voice sounds very feline.

hopefully they won't fuck up grimmjaw or uliquiorra's voices.
