Any recommendations for exterior house paint brands?

1. Benjamin Moore.

I have used it for years. It's probably the most expensive paint too. But well worth it.

9. I think Ben Moore has the best colors, too.

I purchased the house brand of paint from Lowe's for an indoor project and *hated* it. Not good quality at all. I wanted to save time by not going to the specialized paint store. I will make that mistake again.

3. Yes, get the good brand names. The cheap ones you have to cover

at least twice and they wear out faster.

4. I'd suggest Sherwin Williams

They sell it from their own stores and from what I hear, they've not cheapened the product so it can be sold profitably by the big box stores.

I got clued in from my son, who does home improvement work. Their painting contractor swears by Sherwin Williams above all else. We've used it on the interior and I can attest to its quality (at least with my homeowner-not-professional impressions). I have gotten one coat coverage with colors I never thought would do one coat.

The interior paint is bulletproof once dried, too. Even the flat can be scrubbed pretty hard with no ill effect.

5. Big Box VS Store like Sherwin Williams

If it is a special need - Like covering a hard to one coat cover color - go the Sherwin Williams type store. I feel they have better informed people.

General painting, I still use the Big Box brand of paint - but not their lower product brands. For example I do not care for Behr but I do like the Olympic brand.

Then of course there is the cost and "How long do I have to put up with it" considerations.

6. You guys are going to think I'm crazy...but...

At the present time, the best house paint on the market is Sears Weatherbeater Ultra. Only choose the "Ultra" version--the regular Weatherbeater isn't anything more than a good house paint.

Weatherbeater Ultra is an acrylic enamel that contains a single-component aqueous polyurethane that does two things for you--it makes the paint stick to any sound surface (the product will adhere to chalk and other well-adhered dirt), and it extends the life of the film. Sherwin-Williams makes this, but in accordance to the contract they have with Sears they're not allowed to sell the Weatherbeater Ultra formula in Sherwin-Williams stores. There is a S-W-labeled PUR housepaint, but it's not as good as the Sears stuff.

There's also Benjamin Moore Aliphatic Acrylic Urethane Gloss M74/M75. I don't know if you want this; it is a two-part paint (it comes in two cans; you mix can A with can B and work your ass off to get the paint on the walls before it cures) that is probably expensive, definitely not like anything you've ever worked with before, and very durable. The list of recommended things to paint with it reads like the Tasmanian Devil's diet in an old Warner Bros cartoon and contains cement trucks and breweries.

The OP over there is going to paint etched glass, which is going to result in a duller color.

It would probably stick to unaltered double-strength glass...but I'd still paint the MDF anyway.
