| Anyone have a source for good, wooden or soapstone boxes? |
|
Or make them?
I can spend up to $100 for one. I'm looking for a flat-topped, dark box that has a compartment about 2 inches tall and 5 inches in diameter.
We found a wonderful Bastet statue last weekend for my late kitty's ashes, so now I need to find a box upon which we can mount Bastet and a plaque with Simone's information on it.
If you make something like this, or know someone who does, please let me know.

and look under "cabinetmaker." Most cities that have wealthy neighborhoods have at least one. I live in a small city that sports several.
The job shouldn't cost you much if you're just looking for a plain item, unless you decide to choose exotic woods and insist on fancy joinery.

I'd checked the phone book, actually. Modernity strikes again. The cabinet makers and custom furniture shops in the area will happily refinish my countertops, rebuild my sink surrounds or make me a custom settee... but they all sounded like I was crazy when I called. Sigh.

| 2. I have a beautiful lathed stone urn |
|
My mother found it at an art fair. I'll try to remember to look up the maker when I get home, and I'll post the info if I still have it. I think I do.

http://www.turnedstone.com/It looks like he may not make boxes - all his work seems to be in cylindrical form. I do hope you find something suitable, wherever you find it.

| 4. Check ebay if you haven't already |

I found urns there that were beautiful and the price was incredible. I also saw many boxes of all sizes.
Good luck!

since that's what it sounds like what you want, support for an urn with room for a plaque.

made a beautiful pyramid-shaped polished wooden box to hold the ashes of a beloved DUer ("Keph"... I'm sorry, I did not know him). If you ask on GD, lots of people will know.
It was an exceptionally beautiful creation.
