Question

My wife and I bought a house about a year ago and have been struggling to find a kitchen design that we like - replacing cabinets, new countertop, new flooring, and perhaps some other changes to improve the traffic flow.

So I was thinking about it today. the cabinet doors are covered with a horrible blue formica and the same around the cabinets.

Can this be primed and painted to give us a bit more time to get a design we really like????

1. I'm replacing some doors on both batroom vanities.

2. you can paint it, but go to Sherwin Williams and tell em what you're

doing. they have a primer that works

also Krylon has come out with a plastic paint too. if it works on those cheapie lawn chairs it should stick to formica

check HGTV.com too, they do formica kitchen makeovers pretty often. Debbie Travis' Painted house has done one and here's a quote from them

Wilson says painted faux finishes provide an expensive look for little money. Even vinyl flooring and laminate countertops can be painted to look like wood, marble or granite, says Wilson, as long as you use a high-quality primer made especially for non-porous surfaces and cover your paint job with four to five coats of polyurethane.

Or since it's the uprights, can you just wallpaper them?

I don't think we can get it here in the USA. I don't know why. I love her program for all the good ideas even if I don't like all her makeovers. Her imagination never quits!

3. We oainted some formica cabinets in a bathroom

The key is the primer. We went to Sherwin Williams and they told us what primer to use. It worked wonderfully well.
