| Okay, I give up. I can't take the world anymore. |
|
So I'll be here and in CB and Frugal, but that's it. I'm taking the next seven days to finish my canning, start tearing down my garden, mess with my compost pile, paint the den and our bedroom, install a ceiling fan in the bedroom, and basically avoid the world and all of its miseries.
And enjoy the fact that I quit my non-essential job today; I could not deal any longer with being under a nano-micro-manager, could not ethically handle the fact that I was working for a company that contributed to global decay and exploitation of most of the eastern world, and encouraged the frivolous waste of resources in pursuit of "luxury travel". I will be a much better person when I'm not dealing with such gross irresponsibility. (I have a job lined up as a copy editor for a literary agency coming up, so the paltry sum they were paying me won't hurt now that it won't be there. And it's just our toy money, not necessity money.) And it will be very nice to not have to locate the only Kosher restaurant in all of Sichuan province....
I ain't beat, and I'll be back, but I'm worn thin. The sheer weight of human misery of the 6 billion of us has pushed me too far for now.

in mid 2005. I found I was repeating myself, I was tired of getting flamed by party conservatives, and I needed to do a few things around this wreck I call home.
So I took time to clean out closets and contribute the stuff to charities, draw up dream plans for this house, cut my weeds in the yard, work out some new recipes.
Sometimes we need a break. Congratulations on dumping a bad job.

| 3. Sounds like you have the perfect recipe... |

...for recreating yourself. Garden nurturing, home improvement, food provision... all very therapeutic.
Stick with us here, though... I rely on you for good ideas and moral support, and will do my best to return same support!
encouragingly, Bright

These areas are my haven from an increasingly wierded out world. It was the microwave weapon thing... I kept thinking of the climax of Real Genius (bad 80s movie, but great fun) and the jiffy pop...

| 4. We all go through that from time to time |

Sometimes ya gotta do what ya gotta do.
My own posts have gone from my usual smart-assed rants to those with more substance. That change gets lots of comments - for and against. The 'against' gets tiring.
Add on the layer of real life crap in everyone's lives and sometimes you just need to figuratively crawl under a blanket and live on comforting soup for a while.
The forums you listed are, indeed, refuges.

Don't laugh but - I feel your pain. What comes to mind is that your canning endeavor will rejuvenate you. I used to do a lot of that but sadly am not in the mood this year. The thought of the fragrances and lovely jars all lined up on your counter brings a smile. I hope as the days go by you'll feel better and better.
Please post your recipe for canning your apples when you get going on it! It sounds great.

and Iknowhow youfeel. I, too, suffer from total meltdown. Plus, I am broke. My union job is currently hassling with courts, strike preparedness while meantime we have been dealt enormous pay cuts....blah blah blah....
So, now, how do I fix my house when I am broke? Due to being practically absent for 9 years from my clapboard farmhouse, I have huge farm dogs that come and go at will through their doggy door, and the place is in shambles. So, I will learn from the start. Wanted to just say hello to whoever is out there, and I may be a frequent visitor and poster here.
By the way, I have had many retreats from DU, but always come back. I love these little minor groups here, and because of the new format, I gave a glance through and mused that this might be a place for some hints or suggestions as to my plight(s). Haven't tackled any one project yet, but my 1st I know already....I am going to put up another fenced in area for a new shelter dog that is coming home in a couple of days.
Well....must go and do my other work now.

Last time I bought paint, I did not have to worry about price. But now, every thing helps.
I think i will look in salvage yards for other supplies as well.
i will have time next week, I hope.

We'll be happy to help, at least in terms of ideas and sources. Details help a lot, but since we have all managed to live in some level of ARUGH!!! at some point, we're good at moral support and problem solving. We're also not bad for venting.
I hope the job situation gets better. It sucks big time, I know. You have my best wishes/prayers/white light/ etc.

| 13. See if you can find a Habitat for Humanity "Restore"... |
|
...in the nearest metro area. Way cheap remodeling supplies there. It's worth a trip. Tile remnants, unused (and unopened!) paint, extra plumbing and electrical fixtures, etc. Dead cheap.
Another resource: Look up "Freecycle" on the Web and see if there is a network near you. Put up a request for what you need and see what comes up.
helpfully, Bright
