Any ideas for large (LARGE) burlap sacks?

Hubby works at Pier One and their bamboo poles are shipped in these HUGE burlap sacks--maybe 7-9 ft long and 2-3 feet wide. Some of them have been sliced open, so they're not necessarily "sacks" but just lengths of burlap. Others still retain their sack quality.

They're pretty rough...very uh burlapy. A friend suggested I make bean-bag chairs out of them, but the mere thought of sitting on that rough shit makes me get hives and eee...I'm itching now...

Any ideas? NOthing is too far-fetched, as I have 2 bags full of this shite and not a clue what to do with it.

Oh and hubby has made it his life's mission to salvage all the burlap he can find and bring home...so I've got plenty....

1. Patio Cover

Sew 'em together and hang 'em over your patio/deck/porch/area of the yard

2. Make a lot of

cat scratching posts.

Cover a wall in burlap, if you like the rustic look.

Chop them up and put them in the compost pile of your garden.

Chop them up and use them to mulch your vegetable beds.

Dye them and make Buddhist prayer flag strings out of them.

Ummmmmm... that's all I got for now. :)

4. I spent the 60s and much of the 70s

in places with burlap curtains, burlap wall coverings, and woven or braided burlap rugs.

I hadn't considered patio awnings because I never had a patio, a porch or anything bigger than a fire escape.

You can also try unloading it on Ebay. I'm sure there are fibre artists out there who would love to buy it by the pound.

6. Hammocks and covers for gardens

For the hammocks, cover the burlap with a more comfortable cloth.

The lengths of burlap would be great for covering outdoor plants from frosts.

They can also be cut into strips and either knit or crocheted into rugs.

You could also use them as garden mulch.

The 60s have been over for a very, very long time, so using them as wallpaper and curtains is OUT.

Using them as upholstery or throw pillows is also a very bad idea, unless you want a raw arse.

of course, it will degrade over time, but it can help keep the weeds down while your groundcover gets started.
