| New hardwood for floor -- how long to acclimate? |
|
Edited on Tue Apr-14-09 05:04 PM by Hell Hath No Fury
I am picking up some new, solid golden oak to replace some (a lot of) nasty bits in my old floor. I know I am supposed to leave it sit in the room it is going to be laid in, but I don't remember for how long.
Any one know?? Thanks!

| 2. We put in solid oak a few years ago. |

We gave it (and I'd highly recommend) a couple of - three weeks. Husband is a builder of high-end specialty construction projects using a variety of woods.
Depends on the climate where you live (humidity, temp), and WHERE and HOW the wood has been warehoused, which you won't really know! Unless it's from your local Home Depot and has been sitting awhile... then likely not much of an issue. If it's being shipped to you from a warehouse in New Orleans where it's been stored for a year and you live in Nevada (or vice-versa)... best give it some time! Temp equalizes quickly, but humidity takes awhile.
Solid oak is dense and it's wise to give it some time for humidity to equalize.

| 3. I have heard as long as several weeks - up to a month |

"The time required for this step will vary from two days to two weeks based on the wood species being installed, the living conditions of the home, temperature and humidity. " http://www.aceflooring.biz/content/view/29/33/
