Has anyone ever moved a double wide mobile home?

Thinking of picking one up but not sure what the transporting (maybe 50 miles) and other fees would be.

1. Depending on how you set it up

either on cinderblocks with or without skirting or on a permanent foundation, the cost can vary. Transportation is only part of the deal. Much of the cost is incurred when the home is leveled, hooked up to utilities, and tied together to form a unit, and otherwise turned from a couple of shells into a house.

Reputable mobile moving companies are well versed in all these things and you tend to get what you pay for.

The best bet is to call around for estimates.

2. Thank you. I can get the

mobile home at a real good price and can pay cash for it but was kind of curious about the transporting and set up . Was thinking about getting it and moving it to town in a mobile home park for my Daughters. Gas going into town for school is a killer, and have the last one starting this fall.

3. If you have any choice in the matter... avoid parks.

If you can put it on land, it's a better option. If you must use a park, look for one that is a co-op, not a space rental option. Also be aware that a lot of parks won't take a move-in that's over 10 years old.

Park management ranges from adequate to horrific. A mobile in a park is effectively a captive audience; it's very hard to move one out in 30 days if they terminate a lease (and some parks have been known to do so, and occasionally for little reason -- we have that sitch in my town right now.)

Research them carefully.

4. i will look into that. The mobile home is

about 6 years old. I was just thinking the space lease would certainly be cheaper than gas to go back and forth to town for the girls.

That was excellent advice. The mobile home park that is not too far from their college does not seem to be a very good idea ,I called and it does seem to be a little bit expensive. I drove through it today and there are a couple of mobile homes that look like they are being unskirted to move. I might look around a little more.

6. Used ones can be touchy

Be sure you get someone to inspect it to make sure there won't be any problems when it goes back together. There can be leaking issues on used double wides that are moved.
