On the importance of a good a subject line: Wood Fence Bleach?

Since no-one answered my question about bleaching the wood fence, I realized that my subject line was useless.

Need name of product that I can spray(2 gal hand held pressure sprayer) to bleach the dark grey, dingy fence on my side yard. Want to do it soon because there will be work done in the yard shortly.

I have seen one used and it bleached an old fence about a million shades lighter.

Anyone know of such a product? The folks who did it here moved and I never got the product name.

1. You need a deck wash product.

Your local hardware store should have it. I know Thompson(water seal) makes
it as do lots of other companies.

2. Bleach itself works !

I figured you might call home depot about that! There are products just for that ,and no doubt HD carries it. It would most likely be where stain is in the paint department.

Take a bottle of bleach to back corner of yer fence and throw some bleach on a fence board! Than come back about a half hour latter ! See what it looks like. Pressure washing is another way about it dependent upon the age and condition of the fence boards. The product you seek has a bleach base. I do not know if they make a no rinse solution. Yer might take a trip to the home depot and ask in the paint department or fencing. most likely it is in the paint department.

Some people want to stain a older fence, and the product you seek was created around that idea. You wash the fence with a wash before you stain. That means the product was most likely created by a company that makes fence and deck exterior stain.

3. Thanks, do these projects ever end? What if I use a solution of

bleach and water-maybe 50/50 and put in the sprayer, is that strong enough? Rinse after? Certainly be less expensive than buying some kind of deck wash or other special product. This job is next on my list. Today was Thompson's water seal and a little computer stuff. Have an ongoing list.

4. In the old days thats how it was done !

A bleach water solution and the old garden hose !what you might do is check the ingredients of a fence wash and the square footage it will cover,compare the cost of a gallon of bleach to the cost of a gallon of fence wash . you may find with the additives the deck/fence wash may not be as costly as you think. If you say a neighbor using a product and it worked really well ,it may be worth doing a little investigative search. I mean really, in the old days bleach was what, about a buck a bottle ! But than hay, fence boards were a buck a board! It was 16 dollars per eight foot section five bucks ea. fer two fence posts than one dollar per bag of concrete. So that was 38. dollars per eight foot section ! And digging the holes!

Yer fence wash has additives in it, and it is those additives that make the difference. If you use bleach and water in a spray bottle, you will have to experiment to find the right mixture. I have a open deck in the yard ,and when the slippery moss accumulates, I dump straight bleach over it,and the decking boards return to the natural color. But those boards are clear ceder.
When those boards rot, and anything wood exposed to weather will indeed rot, I simple change the boards. It's just a 8 by 10. The last time I bought the treated decking boards. Haven't used bleach on the new boards yet !

Once again I would suggest you make a trip to hd and look over the products !You may even find some stain you like !And if you do,you might demonstrate the idea to yer neighbor, who knows, they may go halves on the project !
