Problem connecting to SqlServer

i just installed a copy of SQLServer 2000 developer edition on my PC and i'm trying to write some code to access the database.

i'm getting an error that reads: "SQL Server does not exist or access denied"

my code (ASP.Net) is pretty basic:

Public myConnection as New SqlConnection
myConnection.ConnectionString = "Server=(local)\myServer;Database=myDB"
myConnect.Open()

the open statement is where the error occurs ... i'm using the "owner" of the database where "myServer" appears in the connection string ... how can i find out the actual database name?

any ideas what's causing the connection problem ??

1. A couple of questions

1) Have you used SQL Server before?
2) Did you install the data engine, the client tools, or both?
3) How experienced are you with .NET?
4) Are you using Visual Studio .NET, and if so, which version?

BTW, I think your Connection String is wrong. Try here for some pointers:

thanks for following up on this ... i probably should have posted something here but i solved this problem quite a while ago ...

the problem was, if i remember correctly, that when i installed the developer edition of SQL Server, i thought it automatically registered the local database ... it doesn't ... i had to manually register it using Enterprise Manager ...

have you done much with .Net? i have tons of SQL Server experience and have been using ASP for about 7 years ... i've only built a few small apps with .Net though ... also, i'm using Visual Studio 2003 ...

don't know if you can help with this, but i recently built a freebie app to assist with a wine auction for a non-profit ... i built it using .NET and Sql Server ... the app worked great but i ran into a problem with printing ...

i had two laptops, each with their own hardwired printer ... i also had a wi-fi router so the "slave" machine could see the website and the database on the "host" machine ... i was using an Adobe reader to display the Crystal Reports the app created ...

the problem occurred when both laptops tried to PRINT at the same time ... that crashed IIS ... i was able to generate the reports simultaneously but i couldn't print them at the same time ... i noticed that the Adobe reports that were spawned in the browser (IE6) said they were "linked files" ... i don't know whether the reports were locking the database (don't think so) or just overwhelmed the hardware resources on the machines ... both machines are fairly high-powered setups ...

any ideas on how to resolve this or even what to "google" would be very helpful ... i'm afraid this goes beyond just programming ...

3. I've used .NET extensively

but unfortunately, I don't use Crystal Reports (at least by choice).

What version of Crystal are you using, and which version of IIS? I know that if you are running a development edition of Crystal, then the number of simultaneous processes is limited, and that IIS sometimes limits the processing when installed on non-server OS's (2000, XP).

One other question: does printing cause the crash when you print a Crystal report simultaneously, or when anything is printed?
