Have you read The Red Tent?

I picked up a copy at the flea market the other day. I've been meaning to read it for a long time.
What do you think of it? What should I look for?

1. Yes. I thought it was fucking brilliant!

Excellent, wonderful book. Well written, lots of great food for thought... it might play loose with history (but we don't really know; it might be correct!), but it's a compelling story and at minimum an amazingly accurate portrayal of life of the time, and a wonderful redemption of the lost stories of the women of the time.

It was a very enjoyable read. I found myself going over that whole part of the Bible again afterward.

I was reluctant to post, because that's one of the hundreds of books I've started, but never finished.
Geez, if I knew there was SEX in it, I'd have kept on reading! Now I have to figure out which box it's in. :)

I liked how you could get a flavor of what life was like. I got a better sense of tribal life and realization of the other religions around at that time.

9. Yes. I loved that book.

It brought to life the kind of living that went on back in those days. She took one little Bible story and expanded the female character, her thoughts, acts, and times. Quite interesting.
