Hippy.
:eyes:
Amazing how people don't get the difference between Holy-Day and (secular/national) holiday.
One sometimes wants just to slap the bejeezus out of them.
But if I went around slapping every one who needs it, I'd never finish. I'd certainly never have time for a Martini.
Jackasses.

| 3. Our church did Pentecost, no Memorial Day. |
|
Nobody even thought to mention Memorial Day vis a vis the church, and we have several veterans in our congregation. I'm so glad to be part of a church in which people don't make an issue out of every foolish thing.

Memorial Day is not a church holiday, and has no business being mentioned in worship. The church has its own memorial day--All Saints' or Totenfest, depending on the congregation's tradition.
Apparently, the church had a long line of well, for lack of a more tactful term, panderers, who made a bfd out of every patriotic holiday. It was the tradition to sing "The Battle Hymn of the Republic" on the day before Memorial Day (as I keep pointing out, Memorial Day is NOT a Sunday). I didn't choose that as one of our hymns Sunday. And I heard about it. Not by a lot of people but a vocal minority. They assured me that it would have been okay, because Julia Ward Howe was a Congregationalist. So, I'm not a good American OR a good Congregationalist.
That I ever claim to be either one.

| 5. We did both Pentecost and Memorial Day in the CORRECT ORDER! |
|
We did a Pentecost celebration at the regular service in the morning.
Then in the afternoon there was a small service for a memorial plaque for a man (I did not know)who was killed in the Vietnam War. He had been a Boy Scout and a Sunday School teacher, so that's fine. We DID pray for peace.
I think that is the proper order of things. NO FLAGS!
