| A blessed Lent to everyone |
|
For me, it started last night with Ash Wednesday services, at which my choir sang two anthems and the Sanctus and Agnus Dei from Byrd's Mass for Five Voices.
Of course, we had imposition of ashes.
During the six weeks of Lent, I'm participating in a study group that is reading and discussing the Confessions of St. Augustine.
How about all of you?

| 3. Byrd - you must have been in heaven!! |

As a pastor, I got to "ash" people and tell them they were dust, and would return to dust again. Then today, I got to talk about temptation and the power to make choices.
Christian formation is not popular, but it is lectionary-friendly.
(as far as practical Lenten stuff goes - we've had far too many people in the hospital, and I haven't given it much thought. One of our good leaders was just diagnosed with stage 3 lung cancer. We are still reeling, and trying to find our way through this.)

It helps to have an English choir director who has us singing more or less the English cathedral hit parade.

We'll be performing the St. John Passion next month, which is more like the German Lutheran hit parade, but hey...
