| My church celebrated its 150th anniversary this past Sunday |
|
It's been a cathedral for only about 60 years, but it was established as a parish in 1858, the same year that Minnesota became a state, and it's been in its current building since 1910.
We had a wonderful service with banners and former clergy and all the choirs singing and a hymn and an anthem composed especially for the occasion, not to mention a wonderful guest preacher.
Afterwards there was a reception on the lawn with champagne (we are Episcopalians, after all), strawberries, and cake. At the reception, our choir's new CD was for sale. :-)
With all the stormy days we've had lately, this one was sunny and in the high 70s. :7

| 2. Heh-heh, I really shocked the Scandinavian Lutherans back home when |
|
I told them that the Episcopal church I attended in Connecticut served sherry as well as coffee after the main service--and mint juleps in the summer. I never saw anyone over-indulge on those occasions, though.

| 3. That's because, for the most part, Episcopalians are grown-ups. |
|
They look, act, and behave like well-adjusted adults - at least in social situations. :P

We are a pretty well-adjusted bunch of adults--except for the children, of course. :-)

| 5. That's a good way to put it - Episcopalians do, for the most part, act like adults. |

More so than probably any other denomination.
If I weren't so dedicated to the UCC, I'd be Episcopal in a heartbeat.

| 6. When my parents left their UCC (long, sad story), |
|
I encouraged them to go to the Episcopal Church in West Bend. My mom said the liturgy reminded her of the Catholic Church of her childhood, so they kept looking. I still think they'd have liked it, if they'd given it more time.
