Hello, my name is Alice, and I think I'm becoming a Christian

Believe it or not, the obnoxious type who bash all Christianity have finally driven me back to church. There were other factors involved, but the more they tried to put the faith down, the more I wanted to defend it, even though I consider myself an agnostic.

I've always had good feelings about the church of my childhood, the Episcopal church, and I've wanted to do something to support them when they're trying to do the right thing for their GLBT members. I recently met a member of an Episcopal church where I live. She invited me to services for last Sunday and made it clear I was welcome.

So, I went. And I loved the service and the music and the people. I'm going back. Probably every week. At some point, I think I'll take the step to accept faith in something I can't see or measure. Right now, I'm in a transitional period, and it feels really good.

About twenty years ago, the Episcopalians had an ad campaign, one of which was a poster that said, "You don't have to check your brain at the door."

Remember that faith is not "believing impossible things before breakfast" but rather a matter of trust in God.

I also found a nurturing Episcopal Church.

It's cool, I think, because it's most definitely not a church that asks you to park your brain at the door. People have different ideas - and that's ok. We can still all share the same pews and worship together.

And from my experience, your transitional period could last forever, and you'd not be any less welcome.

I had no idea people had posted in this thread after I posted it. :hi:

You're not going to believe this, but they've allowed me into the altar guild. They even showed me where the key to the silver is kept. I love these people. :)

So, I helped putting out the sacramental things, taking them down, cleaning, and putting things away. It felt so good. I have a big grin on my face as I write this. I wish I'd gone back years ago.
