Poll question: Have you signed Sojourners' petition to create

the "Consumer Financial Protection Agency"?

This is a shameless push poll to direct Christian DUers to the Sojourners action page on the topic.

The idea is also backed by the White House and a huge umbrella group, Americans for Financial Reform representing over 200 widely varied state and national organizations including the AFL-CIO, AARP, ACORN, Consumers Union, to name a few. As usual, the details are crucial, and some groups are calling on us to lend our support to the recently threatened provision of the original proposal that would allow individual states to enforce regulations more restrictive than the bottomline rules adopted by the planned federal agency. The Sojourners letter allows customization, so you can add some words to that effect.

When I was in banking, from 1975-1978,
the regulations for lending were more strict
and based on reality.

i.e.
A person did not not qualify for a loan OR
a big line of credit if they did not have the
means to pay it back,
based on their income, assets and collateral.
I was the credit checker at one branch of BofA,
among other jobs I had there, all
loans and apps were sent to me for verification
of income and assets, etc.

I understand that all changed the year after I
left banking, in 1979.

Soon after that, your dog or cat could qualify
for a credit card with a high credit limit.
