We got our 'Peace is Patriotic' bumperstickers, from Veterans for Peace.
We sang 'This Land is Your Land, This Land is My Land," by Woody G.
The point was that we were going to take back our country; we are patriotic: we care about our communities and the military personnel from our communities. We appreciate the good services people are providing to their communities, and are going to continue to fight for social and economic justice (this IS being patriotic), and the ideals of Jefferson and Madison (and the like).

The guy leading the service gave us a handout. On it were all the verses. He had looked them up, and their history on the internet. We all sang, and you could hear some laughter.
I'll have to go downstairs and look at them, because I have forgotten them - but I do remember laughing to myself (hope no one heard me).

I didn't mean to imply that he wasn't.
I guess we were just laughing about how clever he was; he got a lot of meaning into a song.
I imagine most people, especially Republicans, who sing that song don't come anywhere close to realizing what he was trying to say.
He was becoming disgusted with captialism, per the guy who did the research. He certainly wanted a strong social and economic safety net for all Americans.
He seemed to believe, to me, that the land and resources belonged to all, not just a few capitalists.
He was the true populist.

His children's songs are fun, too. "Take you riding in the car, car!"
But, I loved his songs about Tom Joad and trying to get to California away from the dust bowl...
