It is kind of hard to find some place that remains kind on this democratic underground board. Seems like the trouble makers find us wherever we try to go. It makes it hard to just have a regular discussion, doesn't it?

some of those people who just love to tell us we are silly for having faith, etc, don't realize that it is this very thinking that causes folks to simply leave. I know on the Muslim board, some of my brothers and sisters won't talk to many others any more, namely because of the prejudice and total unwillingness to even try to understand the Muslim point of view on things. Sadly, they don't realize that this intolerant attitude not only drives away fellow progressives, but is used by fundamentalists to show their followers and others they wish to recruit why fundamentalism should prevail.
One spiritual practice that is rather difficult is to try and see a situation from another person's point of view. I can sort of do this with these people; they have found something that they feel works for them; often it is based in the head and not the heart. They have this notion that everyone operates from the intellect, or that they should. They don't understand looking at things from the heart and the soul; how can they? They don't even realize they have a soul!

|
That is their business.
But I don't think it is necessary to intrude on someone else's beliefs. I'm not sure why people think they even have that right?
I think that it is strange that the Republicans are so popular with the "faith-based" groups. And we seem to make great fun of that.
But lots of Democrats are "faith-based" people, too. We don't need to drive them away simply because we don't agree.
Belittling others is not a bipartisan endeavor. Its not Democratic or Republican. It is simply rude no matter what side you are on politically.
I hate to think of the Democratic Party as the party of rude and hateful people.

Being rude turns people away. I know that there are some who are posting less or only posting on certain forums because of rudeness and lack of tolerance. What's funny is that I always thought that the Democractic Party was one of tolerance and working with all people. You wouldn't guess that from some posters here. In fact, for the first time since I've been here, I've started putting people on "ignore".

out those of us who haven't written on this board much because we don't want to compete intellectually in some type of politically polarized modern-day "joust."
I just started back today on DU, roaming all sites looking for conversations which appeal to the constructive collaborator in me.
Thanks for lifting this one off the ground, leftyladyfrommo.. (BTW, I'm in my hometown of St. Looie, just a tad east of ya :~D )

I just don't feel like jousting with people.
Hey, is it as warm there as it is here. It is just beautiful here - supposed to be 55 today.
But we really need moisture.

explore many ways of practicing what the Dalai Lama calls the essence of his Buddhist faith: "kindness."
Made it up to 60 in St. Loo this afternoon. We can use a little rain here near the confluence of the Missouri and Mississippi Rivers, too. Certainly, more balanced weather patterns throughout the 2006 Spring and Summer seasons is hoped for everywhere.
It would be nice to engage in low-key bridge-building 'twixt KC and STL. Missouri is such a microcosm of America, IMO.

a few months ago. Your gentle prompt got me looking up more relevant info online today. Quite a stalwart soul, I must say.
I really like this notion of trying to serve humanity altruistically. Simplifying my life has always been the toughest task for me, as I'm close with family and people on my delivery route who are continually registering alarm at America/Earth's woundedness. (Not to mention the havoc that being fully committed to steadfast bridge-building can play on development of any type of sustainable love life :~D )
I have a pal in Sedona who has posted on this board for a long time. She and I haven't talked for quite a while, but I trust that our strong mutual desire to absorb myriad lessons attained over a substantial period as "inquiring" planetary citizens still links us at the "essential core." Sounds like you live on this road, too.
Hopefully, closing ranks in timely fashion, becoming highly interactive soul kin, will exponentially mushroom in the coming months. I sure look forward to seeing more of that Southwest-sector creativity merge with our evolving progressive Midwestern mindset.
Maybe we could think about a meet-up near Jeff City/Columbia in April/May or thereabouts? Amtrak could get us East-West urban-dwellers there easy enough.

| 10. I don't know. I'm a seeker. |
|
Been reading here for awhile. I also don't know if this is the right place for me. What exactly are "seekers on unique paths"?
I'm not exactly looking for a "unique path". I'm looking for teachers; I'm trying to better myself and don't much care if the path is "unique" or not. I'm searching for wisdom and, yes, God/Goddess/The Godly. I also read in the Pagan forum.
Is this the right forum for me?

| 12. All of us are on unique paths |
|
Personally, I'm not looking for a teacher. We are all pupils and teachers. We learns from our compassion of each other and very few of us, if any, have all the answers or even most of them. We're all learning together. I respect those I can learn from and I thrive from the lessons to be learned, but I really listen to my inner spirit above anything anyone tells me. That comes alive when you interact with other advanced compassion souls.
I know and love the person who designed this forum. She's the real things and lives on a very unique path. If you would even ask if you belong, then you may not. We all find that inner peace in our own unique ways. Peace to you in finding yours.
