I came across it when looking for info about Quakers (which I found at http://www.religioustolerance.org/quaker.htm ).

Seems like a good site. It's got all kinds of info, essays, issues, news, message boards, etc.

(ON EDIT: The reason I was looking up Quakers is that in the beliefnet survey, one of my top matches came up as "Liberal Quaker." 1. I've been reading this site for awhile now

I like it quite a bit, if you can ignore all the annoying banner ads that have nothing to do with the subject.

2. I've read this site a few times. Thanks for reminding me of it, though.

I took the test on beliefnet, and came out 100% Unitarian-Universalist in philosophy, but Quaker came up on it also, as well as Religious Science. I go to C.R.S. just because I enjoy the belief system and the service (kind of like preferring vanilla to chocolate). They are all right-on progressive faiths, to me. I've also attended UU services. The one thing that I have to do is try a Quaker service one time. Trying a service/meeting is the best thing to do, in my humble opinion. I also enjoy going to different congregations - each service has a different flavor, so-to-speak.

3. I think my #1 was Unitarian too...

It's been a while since I took the test. I can't remember if C.R.S. was there. I should take it again sometime, or take one of the others at the "Find a Faith" link

The Quakers intrigue me. I can't tell if the Liberal Quakers are Christian, though (which I'm not). From what I can tell, they originally had a Christian base, and I see references to the Bible and Christianity in the description of Quakers as a whole.

I like their belief in equality, humility, individual searching, and peace (and their activism in service thereof).

I also like the idea of the simple unprogrammed meetings, because I'm not so into the organized church thing.

If you attend a Quaker meeting, let us know what you think (and if I do, I'll do the same).

It would be interesting to know if we have a Quaker representative here.

You know, that's why UCC and the Quaker faiths probably aren't my cup of tea. I don't consider myself as a Christian, more of a universalist, in the sense that I study and take concepts from across the board.

To me, one of the enjoyable parts of the UU service was when the pastor said something like, 'Is there a concern?' Someone then spoke of their mother's recent death in a car accident. And everyone then indicated support. So, the congregants were all talking and participating in the service, somewhat free-form.

The UU service had a 'moment of silence,' but no 'prayer.' I just liked the creative visualization and affirmation that characterize the C.R.S. style of prayer. And we recite verses such as, 'Our thoughts are prayers, and we are always praying. Our thoughts are prayers. Take charge of what you're saying.' Just a little song we sing. I'm a worriwart, and the kick-in-the-butt to be positive, that C.R.S. gives you, helps me quite a bit.

To each his or her own. That's what I'm about (as long as one is not seriously hurting another).
