I've been kinda down lately. I recently went through a bout of situational anxiety and can't seem to shake the feeling. It's turned more into a sort of depression. I often fluctuate between faith in some sort of spiritual existance and agnosticism and usually when my faith is low, I just sort of feel like "So what? If there is nothing after death, then we won't know anyway." But this time, those thoughts have made me feel depressed more than usual.
Anyway, I'm looking for some suggestions for reading or watching that will help pull me out of this funk. I just read "A New Earth" by Eckhart Tolle. I guess I didn't "get it" because I am causing my own unhappiness right now according to him. All the stuff going on in the world, all the suffering...for what? What is the purpose of it all? Yes, I know, I know....to learn, to evolve but to what? Toward what? What happens in the end when we're all just floating around happy in enlightenment? Is that it? It sounds almost boring to me. What about love? Why love? Why must we feel such love for our family if we are just supposed to be non-attached?
Anyway, maybe I need some inspirational reading. Anyone have any recommendations?
Thanks.

By Tara singh really was good for me, I like Tolle also, it just depends what you are ready for at the time.
I have glimpsed enlightenment, but it is really hard to hold onto that peace in this fucked up world,..........I feel we are reaching the precipice where it will be easier, the polarities are splitting, the dark forces are being energized but soon you will feel a boost to the forces of light also, so keep the energy positive baby, we may be in for a wild ride here soon...........O8)

"A return to love" by marianne Williamson,
a reflection on a course in miracles which really inspired me so many years ago that I bought another copy and am about to read it again, So after many many years on the path, I have not gotten yet to the place I seek, which is an inner place, a place of inner peace, but at some point one realizes that really that is the only thing worth striving for............oh shit, I am just blabbing away here as I don't know the truth yet either! But you are in good company, thanks for being here!

Now I'm having a hard time choosing which to read first. But your post made me think of a Course in Miracles and I'm thinking that maybe I need to do it. Isn't it a book that you follow day by day? Hmmm....well, thanks for the good suggestions.

at Amazon, and there's one by him called "The Miracle of Mindfulness" that looks very good. I think I'm going to get it. Have you read that one? Thanks for the links. :)

I just read a good book. It's called "Infinite Mind: Science of the Human Vibrations of Consciousness" by Valerie Hunt. Very interesting stuff about human energy fields, etc.
So, I felt a little better after reading that. I'm still going to read the books mentioned on this thread but I felt like it was a good time to take a break from all things metaphysical. Yesterday I started reading a fiction called "Confessions of an Ugly Stepsister" by Gregory Maguire. An awesome story told from the point of view of one of Cinderella's step sisters. Total mind candy. :) I feel better already! But any other "inspirational" book recommendations will still be appreciated. I'm looking forward to reading the ones mentioned above.
Thanks for helping get me through a tough time.

I'll look into that one.
I just wanted to add that I appreciate the book recommendations, but in my OP, I should have asked for some opinions, thoughts and insight into the comments I made about enlightenment, the strong love for family and to what purpose is it if we are supposed to be unattached, etc. I'd like to hear other people's thoughts about these things because all of these books, while inspiring, don't answer these questions of mine.

| 10. Enlightenment will not be boring! |
|
This place is boring, and nobody's says you have to float around somewhere for eternity, you can do whatever you want, but we live know in a world based on fear, the polar opposite of love, both worlds exist in your mind, but you are only able to see one or the other, so 99.9% of us are living in the world of fear, at least 15% of us are striving to see the other world, yet it is difficult until at some point we reach critical mass...........
We are getting close so please keep striving and trying to understand, I know it is difficult but you are on the "sane" path.O8)
