| ARGH! A freeper lives in my UU church! |
|
This guy was raised UU, and as such, claims he was thought to "think for himself." To him, that means he can promote violence, support the rape of the environment by big business, and basically trash everything the majority of UUs hold quite dear. The only thing I think he isn't is a racist. Good lord, you should hear him in the pulpit! For instance, did you know that non-violence works because it's backed up by force? :eyes:
So anyway... :banghead: Thanks for listening to me complain! :hi:

Other than that, I don't know what to tell you. The disconnect is giving me a headache.

now that he's in his 40's seems remote. :( You'd think he'd have learned something by now, but the only lesson he seems to have learned in 40+ years of UUism is that he can believe whatever he wants and behave however he wants without regard to what anyone else in the congregation or denomination thinks on any given subject. Plus, he doesn't seem to be religious/philosophical at all. You have to be really dumb and/or really self-absorbed to believe your ignorant, unresearched opinion is just a good as those of people who research and thoughtfully form rational opinions. I mean, hold dissenting views by all means, but at least back them up with reason and facts, not just, "It's my opinion, so it's right." :eyes:
*sigh* But I guess being willfully ignorant is what makes him a freeper. x(

It's amazing how people seemingly can be raised in an environment that stresses tolerance, diversity, peace and the like then turn around and embrace ideals that are polar opposites. Unfortunately other factors in his life may very well have influenced him more than his UU upbringing.
Ironically, this is the second time in a week that I've had person with rigid RW views claim they were "freethinkers".

| 5. Weird...a fundie christian I know |
|
just informed me that he is open-minded and that I am not. I'm a 55 year old sometimes agnostic Wiccan/Pagan/Humanist who has traveled a long circuitous path from the Southern Baptist church of my childhood. He is a 35 year old fundie Christian who was taught that belief system as a child and has never questioned or strayed from it.
I guess freethinking open-mindedness is truly a subjective thing.

I don't go to a church but finding a full fledged freeper somewhere that I consider sacred to me is unnerving to say the least. It makes me feel unclean to have to share that space with them. *shudder*

I'm glad this guy is not in our UU community.
We've got one going in our neck of the woods: www.temeculauu.org - check it out!
I maintain it.
I'm still going to PM you one day about putting your talk up on our site; I'll PM you one day for permission and to discuss details.
Blessings to you (or positive/healing energy headed your way)!
