...What do you call someone who believes in God, but is completely turned off by organized religion?

or an otherwise sane person,
most "organized" religion is just dogmatic brainwashing............
you are better off reading some of the better spiritual teachers of the world in book form and practicing unconditional love, forgiveness and non judgement in your own life.O8)

| 4. Yes, I would definitely say "spiritual" also. This is what I... |
|
call myself. I would never call myself "religious".

They may or may not be spiritual. My friend Mike believes in God but detests organized religion. If he is spiritual it is in a way that he's never expressed to me.

| 7. Why do we have to label? |
|
I don't see why anyone should have to fit into some predefined role of spriritual belief. I find my spiritual truth in many places. I know it doesn't really matter what I call myself. My beliefs are as valid as the next person's.

little boxes so that we can relate to them I suppose it is simply a restraint of dualism. I find it best expressed in the saying that, " as soon as one claims he is a buddhist, he is conclusively demonstrating that he is not."

labels, while occasionally helpful for some people (i.e. a clear sense of belonging or affiliation), really IMHO exist more for others. By giving you a clear cut idea of where I stand, what I believe, who I love, etc...it makes your deicision of how to interact with me, whether to immediately blow me off, attempt to convert me, etc, that much easier.
From an early age, I stayed away from broadcasting any clear cut labels or definitions of myself. In reality, it generated a lot of grief. Think "guilt by non-association."
EDIT: Formatting...

I would imagine those who actually follow the actual holy books are completely turned off by organized religion.
