about things that really matter?
I've become really intimidated in recent days, myself. Went there today and saw an interesting thread on orbs of light viewed in a church. The usual crowd pounced upon it, calling it camera errors and belittling anyone who thought such things could be real. Hey, I don't take camera photos--I've SEEN light emanating from people--pretty obvious at times--but I don't feel comfortable saying so on a more public forum because I know it will just be ridiculed. So I come here and to Astrology, where we're reasonably safe from assault.
Anyone else reluctant to post esoteric things at R/T?

though oddly I can't stop reading it completely either. Go figure. I guess it's a bit like watching a traffic accident. I don't want to; but I can't turn away.
Having said that, I don't know if you can find a way to talk about the mystical with someone who doesn't want to acknowledge that other people experience it.
edit: clarification

It is kind of impossible to talk about the mystical with someone who does not want to acknowlege that other people experience it.
I no longer want to try to do so.

But for a different reason. I've lost count of how many times athiests have been asked "why do you post here" and/or told in so many ways "we don't want you here/go away/STFU".
In essence, DU is pretty much a microcosm of real life.

genuine discussion. I can feel my blood pressure rising when I go there. I don't feel any need for anyone to validate my reality, so I don't feel as though I'm missing anything by mostly just discussing such things in the two areas that you stated, ayesha.
I don't feel the need to convince anyone else of my beliefs. If someone's interested, they'll ask me. However, I don't hesitate to post my beliefs throughout DU when it makes sense to do so. (I'm certainly not ashamed of or embarrassed by my beliefs.)

I'm right.
No, you're wrong. I'm right, you idiot.
You're wrong and stupid.
No, I'm right.
See, I just saved you many hours of reading and pondering (and possibly of ranting). Yet, I still go there occasionally, but hardly ever post. I don't need an interactive internet website to talk to myself.

| 5. I am really careful about what I say there |
|
There isn't any point in inviting people to be jack-asses to you. Usually just being a person of Faith is enough to get ridiculed, but add in any serious discussion about esoteric things and they will basically rip you apart.
Usually it just isn't worth it.
Even when they ask about your experiences, much of the time it is just so they can call you crazy and puff up their own superiority.

I very rarely read the posts in R/T. I just don't gain any mind growth from it. It seems as if there are a bunch of posters that just really "need to be right," as we say in psychology.
I enjoy reading the posts here very much. I was the co-founder of the group; you guys have gave it meaning. I greatly appreciate it.
I POST even more rarely in R/T (maybe a couple of times per year).
I've tried to give my point-of-view, but it really isn't appreciated there.
The people that tend to post here tend to explore the mystical and metaphysical, which is what I enjoy.

| 8. i am reluctant to have ANYthing to do with formal religion. they cant see they are a Mystical belief |
|
in Ken Wilbers 'A BrieF History of Everything' he relates how religion and tribalism is a mind state one is possible to evolve out of by taking the next step to a World View around the age of 15 years old...that step is big scary one because you cant ever come back to a tribal view.. thus the hate and intolerance of evolution.

| 10. I just paid money to get out of the R/T Forum |
|
I think that the R/T forum is a fund raising gambit that Skinner has put together to coax donations from the religious left. Here's how it works.
There are great-looking forums for religious discussion such as this one, or the Orthodox/Catholic forum (if you like that kind of thing) and so forth. You can't, however, post to them unless you have the donor star. So, if you want to ride for free, you have to post in the R/T forum. Soon you discover that the R/T forum is ruled by the Atheist Jihad who are determined to keep the Religion and Theology forum unsullied by either religion or theology.
Hence, I just paid to get out of that forum. I look forward to some enjoyable and constructive discussions with you folks.:hi:

That's why I was a hard-core lurker for so long. I am shy and the way some people pounce on others really intimidates me.
I don't feel I should have to defend my beliefs here.

But thanks for the post!

you just have to ignore. I think there are some people who kind of get off on saying really cutting, hurtful things.
Just blow them off and post away.
