I think I like goth, I know I love metal. So I guess I'm gonna have to find it somewhere.
Thanks for the tip.

| 4. Well, I managed to get both songs. |
|
I think this could grow in me.
The search I did came back with over 2000 files.
Any other selected same songs you can think of?

"wish i had an angel" "gothic sanctuary" "planet hell" "romanticide"
that should give you a good start; they've been around quite a while, so they have a lot of stuff

Nemo-Ministry? Do you know what that is?
It almost sounds like Prog a little bit. Prog has that operatic quality -- like the singier for Dream Theater.

I don't like the singer as much as I like the musicianship. That's why I like Portnoy's side project Liquid Tension Experiment almost better than DT itself -- no vocals.
But any other bands like these two that you know about, feel free to share....

mike portnoy is a god (except for the whole conservative thing)...and petrucci is an insanely good guitarist.
as to other groups, unfortunately i have yet to find similar ones, though evanescense could be considered a very very mainstreamed and simplified nightwish

| 10. What is it with drummers being DT fans? |
|
I used to know a guy like that. Had his computer programmed to turn the stereo on to the same DT song every morning. Freaked me out.
Hey, if you like them, have you ever heard of Marillion?

| 12. They're Irish. Their big hit was a song called Kayleigh |
|
back in the early '80s.
This drummer I told you about who loved DT, I had Marillion on vinyl but no turntable. He had a turntable so he recorded the record on cassette for me and kept the vinyl.
He liked it. It's called "Misplaced Childhood" and it's on CD now so I have it for real. It's great from beginning to end.
I took perverse pleasure in introducing this guy, essentially a professional musician, to music he'd never heard of. But of course he topped me by digging up a jam session between some of the DT guys and Marillion on video.
Coolness.

| 14. Let me know what you think. |

I like track 8 best I think. Part of the song is about the war between the Irish and the British, where he's talking about "a war widow in a laundrette washing the memories from her husbands clothes. Medals pinned to a threadbare greatcoat..."
It's one of the best anti-war songs I think I've ever heard.
