The Flaming Lips

Well, I'm from Norman,Oklahoma, so I'm lucky enough to've been privvy to the lovelyness that is The Flaming Lips from very early on. I first saw them live in 1987, and I was AT several of the shows that got live releases on their Acid complipation. They never seem to disappoint and have only improved with each and every release. I'm really looking forward to their new release, which as I understand has been pushed back to 2006. :( Any other fans of the phenomenon that is The Flaming Lips?

1. love them

i saw them at the moe.down festival in 2003. their set really helped to set the tone for that saturday night: MESSED UP!

one thing that i do NOT like about the lips is they play the same show night after night after night, and they have been playing the same set for quite awhile now.

2. Great band- their new stuff in under-rated by the "hip" crowd....

...which is too bad, since it may be their strongest material froma technical standpoint...

3. I'm trying to get into them

Their singer reminds me of Neil Young; plaintive and heartfelt. The only song I really love, however, is the instrumental Approaching Pavonis Mons by Balloon. I just love that guitar sound!

4. Been a fan since "She Don't Use Jelly"

Saw the "Yoshimi... Pink Robots" CD in Best Buy one day and just had to have it. Addictive as hell. It was one of my mainstay CD's when I was driving from Vegas to Phoenix to visit my wife-to-be until she came up here to live with me. :)

5. I'm a lips loving normanite

Well, I don't live in Norman anymore, but I did for years, just moving recently :)

I'm glad to hear they've got a new release coming ...
