so I'd call it an offshoot of singer/songwriter. It's not the sort of "one man and an acoustic guitar" that you think of with that genre, but in spirit, it's similar.
Incidentally, am I right in saying this is just him and a computer? If so, does he have a band for live performance? Does he play out at all?

They mix on computer. He has some Jazz musicians working on his new stuff. I think if he had a good band he would play live, but he doesn't do much of that now. I think he should get a live act going and play some loungey clubs.
