Okay, I keep zeroing in on the black band around its neck with a bit of white as well. I am going to say it is a Wilson's Plover adult non-breeding colors.

I thought for sure it was the Wilson's after noticing the single band and coloring and overall shape, but when you came back with the bill comment, I thought that I must have been wrong. I couldn't see another shorebird that really fit though. Man, I am glad that is over. I guess it is my turn now. ;)

nor a Western Kingbird, but you are very close with the kingbird. As you probably noticed they are both from the same family of birds, the flycatchers. This photo was taken in late fall, November, on the Central Texas Coast.

46. The Vermilion Fooled me!

I've never seen one with pink so high on the breast and unstreaked. And so, I assumed it a Say's Phoebe and thus a photo from the West. With that, I "saw" white in the border of the outer tail feathers of the Kingbird without noting the yellow on the breast. On second look the white is an artifact on the left and a twig on the right tail feathers.

47. I believe that is an immature vermillion, IIRC.

At the same pond where I took this pic, the adult was nearby perching and periodically diving near the water to catch insects. The Couch's kingbirds who are also much bigger and gregrious than their western cousins were being, well, gregarious. They wouldn't shut up! ;)

But it looks small compared to the other gulls, and I can't really see the beak well. I've also never seen an adult Glaucous, but it has that "dumpy" look like the juvie bird that was here last month. :)

long bill drooping at the tip, slender body shape, and that tell-tale pale rufous patch over the ear give it away. Looks to be molting into breeding plumage.

All I have is a Nikon D40X with a 55-200mm zoom, not even a VR lens. It was my birthday present last year. It's tricky to get decent bird pictures with it, especially warblers, but every now and then one comes out that's worth looking at.

So any guesses on the ID? It's fairly easy.
