More Than 275,000 Signatures Collected To Allow Vote On Restoring Michigan’s Century-Old Dove Shooting Ban
We did it! On March 28, the Committee to Restore the Dove Shooting Ban submitted more than 275,000 signatures of registered Michigan voters to qualify the dove shooting referendum for the November 2006 ballot. The petition drive was an overwhelming success—a 73% margin above the 159,000 signatures that must be certified as valid for the dove question to be placed on the November 2006 ballot. Once the petitions are certified, the new dove hunting law will automatically be suspended, blocking dove hunts for 2005 and 2006 until Michigan voters have the chance to decide the fate of our mourning doves.
