Murder prompts Sinn Fein suspensions
From Aljazeera.net:
Friday 04 March 2005, 0:56 Makka Time, 21:56 GMT

Seven members of the nationalist Catholic Sinn Fein party have been suspended because of alleged involvement in the murder of a Belfast father of two.

The family of Robert McCartney claim members of Sinn Fein's paramilitary wing, the Irish Republican Army (IRA), were responsible for his murder after a bar brawl and that the IRA destroyed evidence and intimidated witnesses.

Party president Gerry Adams said on Thursday that the McCartneys had provided him with a list of names of those they allege were involved.

When he was informed seven of those on the list were party members they were suspended without prejudice pending the outcome of the legal process.

1. RTE is also covering the story
http://www.rte.ie/news/2005/0303/mccartneyr.html

The Sinn Féin President, Gerry Adams, has suspended seven members of the party because of their alleged involvement in the murder of Belfast man Robert McCartney.

In a statement this evening, Mr Adams said the seven, who were named in a list given to him by the McCartney family, had been instructed to provide full and frank statements about the killing.

Mr Adams said he had given the full list of names to a solicitor to pass on to the Police Ombudsman, Nuala O'Loan.

Good on him.

I was looking at Aljazeera for some information and I saw this story so I thought I'd post it. Just shows how important the Peace Process is. It is news throughout the world and not just Ireland and NI.

Good to see you posting.
