But it's not going to happen. They're already showing yet another week of all repeat shows! And, in the meantime, news is happening! I'd love to hear what he has to say on this Jeff Gannon/White House/sex scandal business! Don't these people work more than one week in a row?!
And I agree about "Tough Crowd!" Yikes!:hurts:

I always thought it should be an hour long. Infact I think they should get some new reporters, without replacing Cordury, Colbert, Bee and Bob. If they had more segments they could really lenghten the show. Even just to 45 minuts, the use the last 15 to show 'classic' clips.
You guys may not know but Daily show is shown up here on Canada on two stations "The Comedy Network" and "CTV" ~ CTV is one of Major Networks the equivilent of NBC, CBS etc.. in the States.

| 3. These sound like great ideas, but Jon still does carry the show |
|
I particularly like your suggestion about the clips. They could lengthen "your moment of Zen" to "moments," LOL!:D
In the U.S., it's on "Comedy Central." And I am very familiar with CTV and do remember that they did show a number of American shows. I worked in the TV listings business for more than 15 years, and my first "beat" was the Pacific Northwest, so I had a lot to do with CBC and CTV.:-)

| 4. My plan for extending it to an hour |
|
1) Extend the interviews and/or use TWO interviews. The interviews are when Jon is at his smartest. If Leno can carry a 15-minute interview, Jon could do it in his sleep.
2) More special segments. Maybe a regular segment where someone from The Daily Show sneaks past the screeners and makes it onto a right-wing TV or radio call-in show. Perhaps an audience Q&A at the top of some of the shows (like Carol Burnette used to do)or something else that gets the studio audience involved.
I think doing one longer interview might be easier for Jon than two shorter ones, since he does seem to actually read the books people are plugging.
3) Bring in Randi Rhodes, Sam Seder, Mark Riley, or Marc Maron as semi-regular correspondents. Use it as an opportunity to plug Air America Radio.
Here is my MAYBE list:
1) "Real" investigative journalism. I mean, as opposed to an expose on "The Cooter Festival," or things that other media outlets are already covering. If he'd wanted to, Jon could have scooped the GannonGate story. He was the first pundit or outlet I saw that pointed out that something was wrong. Of course, he should make it funny.
2) Bring in Chris Rock, Jamie Kennedy, David Cross, Michael Moore and Margaret Cho as recurring correspondents.
What he should NOT do:
1) "Performing-monkey" stuff where that's just silly for the sake of getting a laugh, like when Kilborne danced.
2) Stupid stuff like Kilborne's "10 Questions" or Letterman's "Stupid Pet Tricks."
3) Cheap shots like Leno's "Jay walking."
4) Adopting other people's gimmicks, like Dennis Miller's "Varsity Team," or putting in a pool table.

That is an excellent point about the interviews. They are when Jon is at his best. And I have long thought that ten minutes was far too short to do a proper interview, unless it's with Paula Abdul, and then it's ten minutes too long. What a waste for him to read a 300 page book for only ten minutes of airtime.
I don't know if they manage to sneak on a RW show, but they could try, or call in. The problem is that these guys don't want to hear the other side and they have no sense of humor. Jon will give anyone a forum and still manage to be cordial, though he actually got a little testy with the guy who wrote the definitive book about the connection between Saddam Hussein and al-Qaeda.
I also like your idea about plugging Air America. The audience would love that. They aren't shy about booing some RW pundit, and Jon has often had to warn them, so they no doubt are fans of Air America, and would eat this stuff up.:-)
And I agree that they shouldn't lower themselves to the stupid stuff or imitation. This show is about politics. That's why people tune in. More politics, deep six the movie plugs, that's the ticket!:bounce:

| 9. Just don't make them work to much, LOL! |
|
I thnk a good way would be to have some of the other correspondents take over as anchor occasionally. Perhaps a half hour of "The Colbert Report" That way they will be more likely to want to work more and John Stewart doesn't have to.

| 6. I fear they would run out of good material |
|
We don't want the most important television program, ever, devolving into Saturday Night Live. The problem with SNL is that they don't know how to leave out material that just is not funny.
TDS is written, edited, rehearsed and taped all in one day. They have to start with the news, not just by writing some lame-ass Leno jokes.

I really liked her, she did some good stuff. Then she just disappeared but is still listed as a correspondent. I never heard what happened. Before I get flamed for not knowing this it's my first post in this group. http://www.kliljedahl.net

| 10. Keith Olbermann's Countdown is pretty much |
|
a legit hour of the Daily Show.
It's on at 8pm, but repeats at midnight, which is convenient after an hour (2 shows) of TDS.

| 11. Stephen Colbert is getting his own half-hour to follow TDS |
|
http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20050503/ap_en_tv/tv_comedy_colbertThe Colbert Report. "It's as if my character on `The Daily Show' got promoted," Colbert told The Associated Press.
He'll be a "very well-intentioned, poorly informed, high-status idiot, not unlike some people who have these shows in the real world," he said.
Besides lampooning O'Reilly, the king of the cable TV opinion shows, he's sending up people such as Sean Hannity, Joe Scarborough and Anderson Cooper, he said.

|
I only hope it doesn't become another "Crossballs." I think they should have a regular group of fake guests that act as "expert panelists" for any random subject (just like the official <insert speciality here> Daily Show correspondents) -- have it scripted so Colbert can make an O'Reilly/Hannityesqe ass out of himself. It'll be great.
