There are two parts of Hezbollah, one political and one militaristic - very similar to how Sinn Fein and the IRA operate. Sinn Fein is recognized while the IRA is not.

Very complicated scenario and possibly a gambit which might not have been worth the effort.

6. Hi elshiva!!! It is snowing here - also it is my birthday - I

got a huge bouquet of birds of paradise flowers with the most fragrant eucalyptus branches from my friend in California. Whoa. My cats and W. and I had a Big Party opening the box, etc. You can imagine - the cats get all excited over nothing at all so a box of flowers is their idea of a Big Party:)

Then I went for a long walk in the snow, by Lake Michigan, which is wild today. The gulls were screaming and the totally incongruous wood ducks, who moved in last summer and came back from the South just a few days ago, are hunkered down in the grass. They are beyond cute.

18. What do you think of the anti-Syrian demonstrations today?

It seems that people really are interested in expressing their views, but most significantly, that they feel safe doing so. This can't be bad even if it does underscore the complexity of Lebanese society.

OK, I'm going to stick my neck out here: if Hezbollah can reform itself and become a true POLITICAL party and not an armed militia - and since they do, as Shi'a, represent many Lebanese living in the south and east of the country - shouldn't we at least give them a chance to do the right thing and participate in a democratic Lebanon?

Do you think that's even possible, given their militant history? Some posters on the main board seem to think a street fight is imminent. I sure hope NOT, Hezbollah or no Hezbollah.
