In April, the United Methodist Church's General Assembly will vote on whether or not to divest its holdings in companies that do business with Israel. I hope it doesn't pass, but even if it doesn't, it is still sad that they feel that Israeli Citizens deserve to be punished, that Jews are being called monsters in such report, and that there is a comparison being made between Israeli actions to Nazi Germany.
If they should vote on anything they should vote on resolutions that look into helping the peaceful resolution in the Middle East and on resolutions to end such distortions that incite hatred and only adds fuel to the fire. :-(
Article from the ADL:
New York, NY, February 19, 2008 ... The Anti-Defamation League (ADL) today called on the United Methodist Church (UMC) to repudiate a "distorted and mendacious" report on Israel produced by one of its divisions that refers to Jews as "monsters" and compares Israeli actions to the Nazis.
The 225-page report, titled "The Israel Palestine Mission Study" comes at a time when there is a movement within the United Methodist Church to support resolutions to divest from companies doing business with Israel. The UMC is holding its quadrennial national conference in April 2008, and several draft anti-Israel divestment resolutions are being put forward for consideration. The study was produced and published by the Women's Division of the United Methodist Church General Board of Global Ministries...http://www.adl.org/PresRele/IslME_62/5233_62.htm
