Happy leap year. Today is the first day of Adar II, the extra lunar month that gets stuck into the Jewish calendar 7 times every 19 years to bring it into line with the solar calendar.
This is why the High Holy Days were so early last Gregorian year and will be so much later this year.

I also recently read that it was traditional for Jewish women to take the first of the month off, but that the custom is no longer observed. I think that's a great shame and urge all Jewish ladies to call in sick today :-)
