| Why is Jewish Blood so cheap? |
|
Israel attacks terrorist and militants and some civilians are hurt and killed, people go ape shit and start the "hate Israel" bullshit.
Arabs blow up market places, discos, buses, plazas (you know, governmental and military targets), Jewish lives are lost (including children) and people blame Israel.
Why is Jewish blood so cheap?
Pogroms, Inqusitions, Pale Settlement, Explusions from France, Britian and Russia, Babi Yar, the Holocaust, "Protocols of the Elders of Zion," etc. . .why is Jewish blood so cheap to people?
Why are my people the whipping boy of western civilization?
And here at DU, Israel is the whipping boy. Why are Jews such monsters to people and why is Jewish blood so cheap?
Don't give me "support the people, not the government" because that's a hollow argument. Israel is made up of Jews. . .so it is Jew bashing. Why is Jewish blood so cheap and arab blood so precious?

I hope you get an answer.

Its gotten vicious around here lately.
I wish I had an answer for you, but my best guess is that the anti-semitism in this country that had been widespread before people realized the horror of the Holocaust never really went away. It was certainly around during McCarthyism in the 50's when Jews, and particularly Jewish entertainers, were targeted. Its died down, but in some places, it seems to be flaring up. I posted something about this about a year ago after one of the huge marches in DC. I know I shouldn't be because Israel is run by a very conservative party, but I am constantly surprised that it is coming from the left. So much hate shocks me.
It seems to me that Jews have been through similar experiences before, with "Golden Ages" in other countries that have turned sour...sometimes very quickly. I am not saying that it is happening now, here in the US, but there certainly seems to be many people who are willing to change the historical facts about many events in order to make it look like Jews are to blame. (Of course, I'm sure they would say that we are doing the same thing in reverse -- its just that their interpretations of these events are entirely new to me, which seems a little absurd.) On the other hand, I have seen many posters who have been more rational and fair, to both sides.

It is getting very crazy here in DU and it is not even worth the time to participate in the discussions in I/P, General, and General Politics. I rolled my eyes several times but I am not even reading those forums anymore. What I find amazing is that people take sides in a conflict that is not even theirs. There are two sides in this war with their fair share of blame. I understand when Jews and Arabs take sides in this issue but this situation is so complicated that it would be impossible for some outsider be so passionate and sympathetic to one side or the other.
People use the anti-Israel articles to fuel their fantasy that Israel acts only to kill Arabs for pure hatred. I even read someone imply that Israel are like Nazis or that they want genocide.
Nazis hated Jews for no reason except to stay in power. Jews did nothing to the Germans yet the Nazis hunted down and slaughtered 6 million Jews (among them 1.5 million children). I am not even going to mention the methods or specifics.
But, do Israelis have disdain, contempt and hatred of Palestinians? Toward Palestinian leadership, the answer is probably yes. And after so many suicide bombings, after the smuggled arms on the ship from Iran, after their leadership's endless lies and negotiating in bad faith, could anyone blame Israelis? Towards Palestinian people, fear and mistrust probably more accurately describes Israeli sentiments.
Polls in Israel show, most Israelis favor an independent Palestinian State. I believe almost all Israelis would like to live in peace with their Palestinians neighbors and see them prosper. Not exactly a parallel to the Nazis.
People are correct "in principle" to challenge Israeli ethics and attitudes toward Palestinians. But to utter Nazi in the same sentence or even to imply Nazi is plain wrong and a monstrous injustice to Israel and the millions of victims of the Holocaust.

until I started participating in DU. Thank goodness these people are recognized as the fringe by our elected Democratic leaders. But I'm getting tired of having to defend this stuff to my right wing friends who insist that the Democrats have abandoned the Jews.

on Israel or any issues relating to....
My attempt to take a different approach to the Gen Disc. Forum, and show that there are other points of view here, was futile.
I, a jew, was provoked with accusations of a "persecution complex." Imagine that.

| 6. Funny how the left acts just like the right on this particular issue |

The right says the same thing about blacks and gays whenever they complain about how they are treated. I'm going to start hitting the alert button and at least make the point that speech matters.

Nothing makes me madder to see Jews compared to Nazis. Comparing anyone to Nazis is against the rules in I/P, btw.

like, if you're going to compare anyone to Nazis, it is some of the Arab terrorist leaders.
After all, one of the Nazis' core beliefs was that Jews had no right to exist. Some Arab leaders and Muslim extremists believe Israel or Jews have no right to exist.
At least this time the Jews aren't people huddled in the ghettos of a country surrounded by and ruled by people of a different religion. This time, Jews have their own government and weapons to effectively fight back. We also have the much needed support of the USA, at least for the time being.
Another difference is, Israel has no goal to conquer the entire Middle East and drive all the Arabs or Muslims out. If they have claimed land beyond the orignal 1948 borders, much of it has been given back and what remains is of strategic importance (Golan Heights) or religious (West Bank and Jerusalem).
