| Life in a tiny town, black crepe edition |
|
She’s comin’ back home with her daughter In the time when planting is done This is a season for growin’ A season to cherish the sun
It’s the time of calves out in pastures Wheat in fields green and lush She’s comin’ back home with her daughter But today there just ain’t no rush.
The town folk they all knew her And watched over her as she grew They’ll all come together tomorrow And ponder how fast the years flew
She’s comin’ back home with her daughter As bird song does fill the air Her parents will be standing together With grand-parents and great-grandma there.
Some boys that she knew as mere tadpoles Her kid brother’s friends and some kin Stand ready to help shoulder the burden Tomorrow they change into men.
Her daddy aged ten years since Sunday Her momma’s laughter is gone We knew somthin’ tragic had happened Watching them out on the lawn
There was no river that flowed here Today one runs salty and fast In life there come many partings And we seldom know which is the last
Perhaps the team of black horses Will be brought in to lead the way She’s comin’ back home with her daughter And this time she’s come home to stay.
