| Has Anyone Used "the Grief Recovery Handbook"? Did It Help? |
|
I just picked it at the library, after reading a good part of it, it seems to make some sense. I am looking for ways to move forward from the loss of my mom in 2004. I used to talk to her everyday, and there is just nothing or anyone to help fill that void. It is easier now- but its not that easy.

| 1. Years ago. Very helpful. Used it as a great resource for support group work |
|
It is best to do it with a partner dealing with their own issues. Support groups, even if it is only two people working to help themselves, will help keep you on track and honest.
Time... time will help the hours get filled again.
Stay in touch. Let us know how you are doing - good days AND bad, we all slide back into the abyss now and then. Friends help. There are good people for friends here.
Really, stay in touch. Most here are open to PMs too if the board moves slow and you are in need. ;)

| 2. I didn't read that one |

but it's one of the few I didn't. I have dozens of grief books and they all helped in their own way. I found a wonderful site, GROWW, that really helped me for about three years after my son died. It has forums for all types of loss.
You know, the very best way is to just talk to someone about your beloved mom. At least, that helped me so much and as has been offered above all of us in this group are willing to listen, really listen and hear and care.:grouphug:

| 4. HM - I Am Doing Ok , Thanks For Thinking of Me. Winter Is the Hardest Time |

Gardening and hiking (and exercise - I LOVE my workouts) really help, the peacefulness of nature almost always makes me feel my mom is near. It is SO GLOOMY here in Ohio in the winter though, its normally depressing, so having a major loss only compounds things. However, I do feel I am making progress, however slow. Have a great day and peace to everyone.

Understand about gardening & hiking. Those are my biggies too and I am in Montana. When I ride my stationary bike, Havocdad teases me about turning the tv on to the travel channel
Hang in there.
Did you get the book?

| 6. I Got the Book - It Really Does Have Some Good Ideas |
|
I think it helps deal with any lingering issues that weren't addressed properly, and are festering below the surface....I think being able to identify and work on issues previously passed over would be beneficial to just about everyone.

| 7. Outstanding. You are on your way to healing. |

Grief will still smack us all up long side of the head from time to time. But, when we do the homework, it is easier to face greif honestly and embrace life, death, memories, with a fuller understanding and appreciation.
Being aware can be painful at times, but life is richer when we understand the patterns of the whole tapestry better.
We miss our loved ones, but we appreciate their humanity more with our eyes open. Perhaps spirit finds it easier to walk with us when we see more details.
Good luck on your walk. Am here often if you ever wanna visit. You will do well.
