I have stopped smoking since 7/21/05 and I'm not going back. Here's some things that have improved already in the 19 days that I have quit smoking.
I smell better. My cough is gone. I can sing without hacking up a lung. My prostate functions better. My attitude in general has improved. I have more money.
I've quit with the help of Wellbutrin. It really knocks down the intensity of those cravings. But there have been times where I've needed a little extra help. I've gone through three small bags of David sun flower seeds, 3 17-packs of Big Red gum, 3 17-packs of Wrigley's spearmint gum, and 2 pints of ice cream to keep myself from smoking. Now that I'm closing in on my 3rd full week of not smoking the cravings are almost gone. Do whatever it takes to keep you from smoking.
I know some people won't quit because they fear the weight gain. I actually quit smoking for a couple of weeks before only to start up again because of the weight gain I was experiencing. But it's not worth it. If you put on 20 pounds while battling the cravings then so be it. You can always take that weight off when you are comfortable being a non-smoker.
