| Anybody have any experience with Zumba? |
|
I have heard from a few acquaintances that it is really hard, but I saw an ad for the DVDs today and I am intrigued.
The Firm Wave has also caught my eye. They both look like fun.
I am continuing with the Wii Fit, but I thought this would be a good change of pace. I've lost 25 pounds so far, but want to keep the ball rolling. I have another 100 to lose.
Anyone able to offer any thoughts?

The only thing I haven't decided on is a good diet to follow. I never seem to stick to anything.

My daughter is an instructor. She teaches at a YMCA and has very large classes. Find a Y and sign up It is great fun and burns tons of calories. You start where you are. She has people of all ages and levels of fitness in her classes. It is a great way to get an energizing work out in a communal setting. I think it is easier to learn in the classes then later use the videos. That said, the newest Zumba videos are easier to follow than the originals.
Congratulations on your weight loss. That is terrific.

I can't pay for the Y but would like to order the new DVDs. With my schedule I will have to do it at home. Thanks for the feedback!

The local rec center was offering classes so I decided to try it.
I'm probably the most uncoordinated and rhythm-less person alive :) ; I'd never thought I'd take an aerobic dance/fitness class.
Wow, it was quite a workout! :bounce: It was about 1hr or so and I was pleased that I kept pace most of the time.
I was a bit self-conscious but as soon as the class started I got over it pretty quickly.
I was afraid the class would be all of these tiny, super-fit people:scared: Nah, there were all shapes and sizes :)
I enjoyed it -- I'm going to try a second class in a few days.
Well done on the weight loss!

| 7. I talked my boss into going to a class on Wednesday... |
|
I keep hearing about it so I decided to check out a class they're having during lunch where I work. People who have done it seem to rave about it. I'll post a report here after I try it out. :)

I'm still trying to save up for the DVDs. I would need to build up a lot of nerve to go to a class and I don't have any workout buddies, so I'm going to go the DVD route.

It was a blast! I talked my boss into letting me schedule it in 2 days a week. My activity monitor showed that I had burned 400 calories in the hour, even though I hadn't gotten even close to full capacity because I was watching and learning the moves, and embarrassingly, found I'm even more uncoordinated than I thought. I'd recommend a good, light dance sneaker without much tread because you do a lot of twists and turns with the ankles. And shimmy. And thrust the pelvis. I wore heavy street shoes with tons of tread and sort of pulled my achilles, but was able to run later that day and every day since, though it still hurts. In other words, be careful! The moves are sporadic and you can injure yourself if you're not mindful. I'd recommend taking a class because the energy keeps you moving, and no one really cares how coordinated you are because they're busy doing their own thing.
