Heartbreaking story.

1. That is heart breaking.

That is a horrid story.

I'm going to a two day forensic nurse continuing education class next week (I'm not a forensic nurse, but I'm interested in it) There are many objectives, but the first is "Describe the role of forensic nurses in collaborating with other disciplines to prevent and intervene in cycles of violence abuse and traumatic injury" The title of the lecture is "The Many Faces of Domestic Violence"

I'll be sure and bring a copy of this article.

2. That is so incredibly screwed up.

My DH is a police officer (MA), and any and all situations between people who are related OR live together OR are in a relationship are treated as domestics - it saves lives.

For instance, in our city, if a police officer responds to a domestic, one or both parties must be arrested - because there is no way of knowing what will happen if you decide everything is fine and walk away.
