Michael Springman was the State Department officer in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, charged with issuing visas to people interested in visiting the United States. Springman blew the whistle on the issuance of visas to people who had no business visiting the US, mostly men in their 20s and 30s with no ties to work or school in the US. Springman suspected some could be terrorists. Springman was told to "Shut up" and issue the visas by superiors in the US government.
