Book recommendation.

I'm in the middle of reading "A History of the Arab Peoples" by Albert Hourani - obviously this has to deal with Islam, but isn't really a history of Islam itself.

I've read a reasonable amount about Islam, the pillars, Sunni-Shia-Sufi &c. - but I'd be very interested to read a good history of the faith itself, ideally starting right at the beginning and coming as far up to date as is possible.

If any of you know of such a book, I'd be most grateful.

My husband goes there and says that they have many different files, including books. Might find something there. Good luck!
