Thousands join pro-Islam protest

More than 4,000 UK mainstream Muslims joined a protest against controversial cartoons satirising their Prophet Muhammad in London's Trafalgar Square.

There had been fears the rally may have been disrupted by extremists, but it proved to be a trouble-free afternoon.

The event aimed to explain the views of moderate Muslims towards cartoons published in a Danish newspaper which led to worldwide protests.

Organisers also said it wanted to dissociate the mainstream Muslim community from a "minority of extremists".

"We have the right to be angry, but we have to do it within the remits of the law, and we have to respect the rights of others," he said.

I find it interesting that news like this is so very hard to find.

2. It was good to see.

The previous protests (from the extremist minority) did much to harm the public's view of Islam - the mixture of signs inciting murder and one idiot dressing like a suicide bomber. Hopefully this protest will show the real attitude of British muslims - which I think all here know is not violent.
