| 1. This is sad on so many levels |

I was reading an article at the Center For Defense Information a few weeks back as I was rebutting a Muslim hater on another board. He tried to claim that most so called terrorists and suicide bombers came from well-to do families. The article I cited (from that reputable source) demonstrated that the most common factor amongst suicide bombers is that they have lost family members to this sort of violence. Grief is quite the motivator and we've left lots of it in our wake there.

| 2. I heard the same thing from a veteran of Lebanon and Gulf War 1 |
|
The man was a chief warrent officer in uniform that I met at a hardware store shortly after Katrina. I asked him about Army Helicopter flights into the Katrina area and he lit into Iraq.
According to this guy the people who commited suicide missions were people who had lost a close family relative; generally a brother or sister. He had horrific details of what happened to Lebanon when the US Navy shelled it in the 80's. Said he kept going back to Iraq just to try and keep the younger troops alive as long as he could.
