34. I am not sure how much you are gonna see

just by driving by a mega church. I have been in a mega church and did not see all that much. I have been walking by even small churches for decades and I marvel at the shiny new cars, trucks and minivans and see the air conditioning and sprinkler systems and bell choirs and think it is very sad that these people do not do more for the poor. Unlike me, the pastor's son had his own car and drove the six blocks to high school (to be fair, it seemed that most of the rest of the high school drove or took the bus, there were not alot of walkers that I knew of.)

They have their flaws, like all humans, and those should be pointed out, but vitriolic, hyperbolic name-calling does not do that.

I am new to this board and I look forward to meeting new people. I am an actively involved for equality for the GLBT community. It is a long road a head of us and I ready for every step of it. I came to this board and others in hopes of finding some to help me in the movement for equality.

In 56 days the senate will be voting on a federal marriage amendment into the United States Constitution. If it passed, it would become the only Constitutional amendment to restrict, rather than expand, the civil rights of individuals in the United States.

There has been only one Constitutional amendment to restrict liberties and rights. The 18th Amendment of 1919 — which attempted to stop alcohol consumption — was repealed in 1933 with the 21st Amendment. The “prohibition” Amendment was an abysmal failure because it created a new class of criminals out of otherwise law-biding citizens, as well as creating a booming business for organized crime.

I am also asking congress to repel the Don’t Ask Don’t Tell policy. The total number of military people discharged under the DADT for the past ten years is 10,335 people.

None of our allies sent that many troops to Iraq from their country. The most was the British at 9,000, who allow gays to serve openly. 60% of the countries that make up the Coalition in Iraq allow gays to serve openly.

On July 19 2004 there were about 133,000 foreign troops in Iraq, of whom about 112,000 were American. 21,000 troops are from more than 30 countries that have contributed troops to the multinational forces in Iraq. It took over 15 countries to replace all the military people we discharge under the DADT.

Since this DADT have been in place, it has cost the government over $200 million to implement and resulted in the discharge of hundreds whom have critical skills for the war on terror, including over 300 linguists with skills in key languages such as Arabic and Korean.

On April 4, 2002, Marine Corp memorandum from 29 Palms asserts, “Homosexuals can and do serve Honorably in the Marine Corps. Homosexuals can and do make some of the best Marines.”

On July 9 2003, Urban Institute estimates there are 1 million lesbian, gay, or bisexual veterans in the United States in a new report.

I am asking for help on writing to your congress and asking them to help us in the movement of equality. It is time to embrace the GLBT community into our country. They are a part of this nation and should have all the same civil rights as their heterosexual counterpart.

And that brings me to the third value I want to discuss - family values. I know what it's like to struggle to make ends meet - and to watch every penny you have. I didn't grow up with much. My dad died when I was four, and he left us with less than a few months rent. My mom took a job as a secretary just to pay the bills.

And as incomes have fallen, expenses have gone up - way up. The result is that too many families are struggling to make ends meet. The Republicans talk a lot about family values. It's time they started valuing families.

My Families First Tax Reform Plan is going to turn this around. Under my reform plan, families of four making under $50,000 will stop paying income taxes altogether - they will not have to pay a single penny in federal income tax. And all taxpaying families with children making under $100,000 will get a tax cut. The average family will get $1,500 - real money they can use for groceries, prescription drugs, and utility bills. I know how much of a difference $100 a month can make. I've been there. That's why we must give America's working families the tax relief they need and deserve.

And my plan won't increase the deficit by one dime. I'm going to pay for it by closing corporate loopholes and by having families with incomes greater than $1 million a year pay a five percentage point higher tax rate on the amount they earn over a million dollars a year. And we're going to take back the tax cuts George Bush gave the wealthiest Americans - those earning over $200,000 a year - and use that money for job creation.

That's just the beginning. You can't build strong families without basic health care. We're going to extend health insurance coverage to 30 million Americans - including every single American child.

And we're going to give every student who needs it a $6,000 grant for each of the first two years of college, helping an additional one million Americans enroll in college. Because the bottom line is that our children will never compete in the 21st century economy if they don't have a 21st century education.

These are the kind of family values that will unite our country, because strong families are the key to strong communities.

With the demise of the Grateful Dead and the retirement of Phish, America's acid distribution network is pretty much scattered to the winds. The offshoots of the Dead (Ratdog, Phil Lesh and Friends, etc.) don't tour as much and draw ever-dwindling crowds.

I can state in all truth that NONE of my failed marriages was due to a gay person. My hetero spouses and I destroyed our marriages all on our own, thanks.

Of my generation, in my family, the marriage that has lasted the longest has been the one between two women. What do you know about that!
