45% that the aircraft suffered a mechanical failure of some sort and spiraled into the condo.
45% of pilot error - the pilot got lost, had his map upside down, programmed his autopilot wrong or something similar.
5% it was an idiot trying to pull a stunt that went bad on him.
4% that it was somebody from the US gone postal who deliberately kamikazed the aircraft.
1% that it was actual, genuine terrorism.

Small planes and choppers go up and down the East River all the time. Sometimes they crash. Helicopters are getting fished out of the river all the time.l

NORAD scrambled planes. I don't have a problem with this. Most likely this is not an attack but if this was a terrorist attack this is precisely what we would want them to do since we know that Al Queda likes to strike simultaneously in several places. Think of it as our tax dollars at work.

It's pretty clear that everyone on board is dead as well as anyone in that apartment. Sometimes an accident is just an accident. Besides, if there was an actual terrorist attack wouldn't that pretty much nullify Bush's claim that his policies are keeping us safe?

Posts I see about "I can't believe I am reading this on DU", "There are DUers who think like this-its insane" puzzle me. I don't understand how anyone expects to agree every with every single opinion on a website with so many people....And yes at times like this conspiracy theories thrive-specially on the internetz.

But, I don't think any sane person is going take random opinions of individual posters on a liberal website as the position of the Democratic Party or that of every single poster on DU....(ok unless its the opinion of >50% of those posting-but I have seen no indication that opinions on DU are that unified on any topic-a good thing imo).
People who are going to look at 5-10 posters and say all these people are crazy, would probably call all of us crazy anyway. They just need a reason to do so.


Its a website for liberals and democrats for sure so there are some things people have in common across the board, but like any other place where you have almost a 100,000 individuals posting, there isn't going to be one unified theory or opinion (especially on controversial topics) that everyone subscribes to....There are going to be "kooks", "crazies" etc. but I fail to see how they represent DU any more than the "sensible", "practical" people posting here :shrug:
