When will reporters learn that Republicans lie?
Lies and the Lying Liars

When will reporters learn that Republicans lie:

Media reports that U.S. Rep. Tom DeLay had convinced the state's highest court to hear his appeal were as widely circulated as they were, well, wrong.

Justices for the Texas Court Criminal Appeals agreed merely to consider hearing DeLay's money laundering case. They never said they would accept the case, said Edward Marty, the court's general counsel.

The erroneous media reports, which the San Antonio Express-News published in a wire story and displayed online, come from DeLay's spokesman, Kevin Madden, in an e-mail sent to reporters Tuesday evening, after courts had closed for the night.

"FYI-Breaking news out of Austin, TX," the e-mail stated. "The state Court of Criminal Appeals has agreed to hear Mr. DeLay's habeas motion that was filed at the end of last week. The court has set a one-week deadline for briefs to be filed by the parties involved. The court could essentially decide to end Ronnie Earle's prosecution after hearing this motion and the facts presented."

Madden said this afternoon that he made an error and never intended to "spin" the story.

"In an effort to be instantaneous, I wasn't precise.....My understanding (of the decision) was correct. The way I relayed it wasn't," he said.

2. When will the American public learn that reporters lie?
The reporters are fed by the corporations that feed at the teat of this administration. The only ones not getting fed as us, the American viewing audience.

4. what do they care?
most of the time, the story is "such and so says ..." and that is a true and accurate story as far as the paper is concerned even if the substance of what such and so says is false. the truth is that s/he SAID it.

that's the modern yellow journalist's standard for accuracy in reporting.

and as far as the publisher is concerned, s/he just wants to see circulation and ad revenue. controvertial stories provide this, and stretching the truth to the point of breaking works, at least for a while. a long while.

what a pathetic state our media is in these days.

5. It's more or less a matter that most politicians, republican or democrat
lie when it best fits their interest to do so. People need to remember that a politician who speaks more lies than the truth is nothing new.

The degradation of journalistic integrity is nothing new either. While it has been pretty bad lately it has been worse. Not that that is saying much, but my point is that people should remember the old adage when it comes to the news which is, don't believe everything you read, or hear, or watch. Even when the news is reported in the most responsible manner, it still requires our ability to think objectively about what is being presented to us.
