Afghanistan under the Taliban and the Somali failed state were about the only places Al Qaeda operated freely and with considerable support (Somalia was where the African Embassy bombings were planned and executed from). Unlike Iraq, which had virtually no Al Qaeda presence prior to 2003. This current invasion by Ethiopia could be good news, assuming the internationally recognized Somali government can actually take control. The Islamic Courts were murderous, medieval scumbags, first cousins to the Taliban.
If you wanted to fight Al Qaeda anywhere after 9/11, Afghanistan and Somalia were the places to do it. But dangit, Saddam tried to kill my daddy!
