Has anyone else seen this? I had not seen it mentioned before. We all know how * surrounds himself with people who think as he does. This was a scary article for me.

Edited to add that I knew about the KBR contract but I had not seen this article which would appear to back up claims that perhaps something more is going on here.

rumor has it that one of these camps is located near my home. It has certainly spooked the local peace organization. Perhaps that is the purpose of them.

11. Yes, that is why I posted this.

I had done another thread about the camp and one of the posters seemed to be sarcastic toward the subject. I have not posted about it since. If someone does not believe in something they could just ignore the topic but it appears some people are rude just to be rude and nothing more.

I found this article and I felt I had to risk posting again since I feel this goes to motive. Let them be rude, it is better to hope for the best but prepare for the worst.

With the Patriot Act--anyone can be defined as a "terrorist" or an "enemy combatant."

`(5) the term `domestic terrorism' means activities that--
`(A) involve acts dangerous to human life that are a violation of the criminal laws of the United States or of any State;
` (B) appear to be intended--
`(i) to intimidate or coerce a civilian population;
`(ii) to influence the policy of a government by intimidation or coercion; or
`(iii) to affect the conduct of a government by mass destruction, assassination, or kidnapping; and
`` (C) occur primarily within the territorial jurisdiction of the United States.'.

In short--you are a terrorist if you APPEAR to be INTENDED (in other words if you look like you might be thinking about) coercing a civilian population (Gee, isn't the foundation of a peaceful protest influencing government policy or US citizens?. And the last line, specifically notes that these punishable activities would take place within the US.

They've defined peaceful protesters as "terrorists."

For what end? So they can detain them. They're building the camps.

In addition, peaceful protesters can also be defined as "enemy combatants" according to the fuzzy definitions put out by Gonzales and others in the BushCo junta. The US has deemed that "enemy combatants" are not subject to Geneva Convention rules. In other words, they can do whatever they want.

Sick and very disturbing.

I see this as the single most important issue our nation is facing.

Why aren't those camps in the news?

There over 800 prison camps in the United States, all fully operational and ready to receive prisoners. They are all staffed and even surrounded by full-time guards, but they are all empty. These camps are to be operated by FEMA (Federal Emergency Management Agency) should Martial Law need to be implemented in the United States and all it would take is a presidential signature on a proclamation and the attorney general's signature on a warrant to which a list of names is attached. The Rex 84 Program was established on the reasoning that if a "mass exodus" of illegal aliens crossed the Mexican/US border, they would be quickly rounded up and detained in detention centers by FEMA. 16. I kind of doubt some of what this site says.

I have no idea how much is true--but I do know that at least one "camp" they are talking about in Illinois is not a threat to anybody. Chanute is an old Air Force Base that was closed down several years ago. Most of it was deeded over to the Village of Rantoul, and then sold to private buyers. What little that is still owned by the Feds is on 99 year leases to the village and has been leased out to industry or businesses.

I know this because I have toured most of it as a real estate appraiser and local taxing official in just the last year or so.

To be fair, there ARE sections that are fenced off, but those are mostly areas that are contaminated with toxic chemicals and old fuel, and old munitions that got dumped there years ago. You can SEE the areas and there are no buildings present. Additionally, the fences they mention are not in very good shape. I doubt they could hold in a herd of cattle, let alone incarcerated American citizens...

While every other site they list might be a threat--and I honestly don't know--the old Chanute Air Force Base is pretty harmless unless you want to avoid buying property located by an EPA "Superfund" site.
