4. I decided for myself,

a long time ago, that I wasn't going to be caught and had my tubes tied (the only procedure the doctor would do because I was so young).

Even though I'm unaffected personally, it's still important to me because lawmakers should NEVER be in a position to decide medical issues.

What about our future generations ... what recourse are they going to have? Parents won't talk about sex, won't give condoms or birth control, so what's going to happen when they get pregnant? Back alley abortions? Too bad we don't know the old ways, with herbs and roots, to make sure pregnancies don't occur.

I keep trying to think of a movement that would make the lawmakers realize that abortions are not their issue - like women not having sex any more - but it's going to take all women to make a stand like that.

5. While I personally am not directly effected by it (since I'm a male and

if I ever became pregnant we'd have a REALLY weird topic for discussion), BUT, there several issues involved with any major anti-abortion ruling. You can begin with the health of the woman, and continue on down to the right to privacy issue which is at the core of Roe v. Wade. Once you chip away at that right to privacy, you do so across the board, not just for one issue.

important to me

Abortion isn't just a medical procedure. It's about the person-hood of women. It's about women having worth in society. If a society denies us our right to control our own lives, then said society does not respect us as humans - as people. Such a society looks down on women and holds them as chattel - sees them as second-class - not worthy of full rights. And a society that would deny me my freedom is a society that is my enemy.

11. For me it's not just about abortion, it is about

the govt, state or federal, trying to regulate my organs and how they are put to use. I might feel differently if such a thing didn't take an entire year out of my life and affect my body's function and my pocketbook.

It is about controlling women and domination and religion. The abortion issue forces religious perspectives on others.

You're either *FOR* human rights (in a full, broad-spectrum sort of
way) or you're a Republican or a do-nothing Democratic Wuss*.

This counts everything including minority rights, women's rights,
gay rights, the right to an education, a job, a home, food, and
health care.

Abortion is a handy exemplar of this; those who oppose abortion
rights usually fail one or more of the rest of the tests as well;
they seem to live by the motto "Breed 'em but don't feed 'em!"

Probably because Dems (as well as Republicans) get huge contributions
from big health care/big pharma/big health insurance companies. They
serve the people that buy them. And that ain't us.

If, like me, you'd been born and grown up in the UK in the late 70s or early 80s you might not be optimistic about the degree of improvement achievable simply by putting women in high office. I'm sure they wouldn't do much worse, but they don't seem to do much better either.

19. I say to me it's the single most important issue...

And here's why.

If my Candidate is pro-choice, then I can usually count on him/her being in step with alot of my political ideaology.

I also think it is EXTREMELY important that the government keep their hands off of our bodies, and I really just cannot think of anything more important than that quite honestly.
