...to APD, Antisocial Personality Disorder. Conduct Disorder does NOT inevitably lead to APD, but a juvenile diagnosis of CD is one of the criteria for identifying APD. Here is the capsule definition:
http://www.behavenet.com/capsules/disorders/cndctd.htmUnfortunately, it is very often misdiagnosed or used as a "catchall" diagnosis for kids who have a variety of behavioral problems that don't seem amenable to ordinary therapeutic interventions.
APD does not automatically make someone a criminal, but a good many of the really grotesquely appalling criminals do have an APD diagnosis. Here's the capsule definition:
http://www.behavenet.com/capsules/disorders/antisocialpd.htmNote that ALL FOUR of the criteria (A through D) MUST be present for the diagnosis, but under "A" only three of the seven need to be observed and documents. Item "C" is "evidence of Conduct Disorder with onset prior to 15 years."
It's easy to understand why a lot of criminals meet these diagnostic criteria. However, so do many people who are not in jail for horrible crimes.
Like a good many members of the current administration.
helpfully,
Bright
